Seerat Seminar Organized in University of Lahore

A Seerat seminar was held on 19 October under the auspices of the Department of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences of the University of Lahore. Dr. Tahir Hameed Tanoli from Iqbal Academy Pakistan participated in the Seerat seminar. He discussed the mention of Sirat-ul-Nabi (peace be upon him) in the poetic and prose writings of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He said that among the primary sources from which Allama Iqbal derived his thought, after the Holy Quran, the biography of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is the most important. Allama Iqbal, while explaining the details of his philosophy of self, has conditioned the training of individual and collective self and the achievement of perfection by following the Prophet's (PBUH) Seerat. Allama Iqbal has quoted this statement of Maulana Rum to support his position:

Don’t detach yourself form the Seerat of the Last Prophet of Allah. Rely less on your technique and your steps

It means that no matter how much the human intellect develops, it cannot reach the level of moral values and perfections of human life which can be achieved by following the Prophet's (PBUH) Seerat. He emphasized the youth to prioritize the understanding and following of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in their life, so that they can also understand Iqbal's thought and lead their lives towards improvement. Dean of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences Department, teachers and a large number of students participated in the Seminar.
