Obituary: Dr. Muhammad Ayub Sabir

Renowned Iqbal Scholar, researcher, author, member of the Governing Body of the Iqbal Academy Pakistan and ex-head of Department of Iqbal Studies, Allama Iqbal Open University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayub Sabir breathed his last on November 17, 2022 in the age of 82 years.

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

Dr. Ayub Sabir authored a number of books on Allama Iqbal. Particularly, his three volume compendium discussing and refuting the objections on Allama Iqbal’s personality, works and thought titled 'Iqbal ki Shaksiaet aur Fikr o Fun per Eterazaat: Aik Mutala ' is a unique research work of its nature. He also authored more than fifteen books on different dimensions of personality and thought of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He had thirty two years of teaching carrier on his credit.

Having served as a member of the Governing Body of the Iqbal Academy Pakistan for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2007 and 2007 to 2010 he was re-appointed for the third term in 2021. He also served as member of the expert committee of the Presidential Iqbal Award for more than a decade. He was one of the earliest life members of the Academy.

In recognition of his academic contributions, he was decorated with the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance (2006) and Sitara-e-Imtiaz (2020). He was also awardee of Presidential Iqbal Award for his best book on Allama Iqbal.

He was very active in Academic circles till his demise. Due to his death not only the Iqbal Academy but the academic world as a whole lost an eminent scholar of our time.
