Renowned TV anchor, director and writer Zia Mohiuddin passed away

Renowned TV anchor, director and writer Zia Mohiuddin, who rendered extraordinary services in the field of fine arts in Pakistan, passed away on the morning of February 13, 2023. Zia Mohiuddin was a big name in the field of performing arts in Pakistan and a symbol of his homeland.

The correct pronunciation of words in English and Urdu language and correct references to history were the hallmarks of Zia Mohiuddin. Zia Mohiuddin was born on 20 June 1931 in Faisalabad. He received formal training in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in the 50s. Zia Mohiuddin also worked in theater and films outside Pakistan. Zia Mohiuddin  trained the youth in theater and drama. He also taught classical theater to students by presenting Shakespeare's play 'Romeo and Juliet' in Urdu in 2022.

He was associated with theater and film industry for almost 67 years. Zia Mohiuddin was associated with the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) from 2005 to 2021 as its founding head. Even after voluntarily resigning from this post, he was working for the organization voluntarily.

Zia Mohiuddin also worked on many projects of Iqbal Academy Pakistan. He recited Kaliyat Iqbal in Urdu for Iqbal Academy Pakistan, which is available in the records of Iqbal Academy Pakistan and is an invaluable resource for lovers of Allama Iqbal and fans of Kalam Iqbal. Zia Mohiuddin also read Allama Iqbal's book The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam, the audio book of which is available in the collection of Iqbal Academy Pakistan. The death of Zia Mohiuddin is an irreparable loss not only for the fine arts but also for the academic and Iqbal circles. Director Iqbal Academy Pakistan and all the officials of the Academy pray for the forgiveness and elevation of Zia Mohiuddin.
